WHAT I'M BITE-ING: The Grand Cru M'Brimbo offers powerful chocolate notes in this 88% cocoa dark chocolate from Côte d'Ivoire. A hint of cinnamon and candied fruit provides sweetness after the power on the palate. Cocoa trees have been cultivated for over 50 years in the equatorial forest. The plantations are transitioning to agroforestry. Côte d'Ivoire is the world's leading cocoa exporter. The country cut down its forest to make way for intensive cocoa farming in full sun. A system that is running out of steam because soil fertility is declining and pests are multiplying, forcing cocoa farmers to use chemicals to get rid of them. SCEB producers are building a unique alternative by cultivating the country's first organic cocoa, which is transitioning to agroforestry, within a transparent and democratic cooperative with the support of Ethiquable since 2010.
